About Me

I am a 27 year old who lives in Washington, DC. My favorite holiday is Halloween, and my birthday is the day after Halloween. I am scared of heights, going underwater, and touching my eyes. I recently stopped eating grains and milk. I love to clean and workout. I go to a CrossFit gym in SW. One day, I hope to run a half-marathon, if I can stay injury-free for long enough. My other goal is to be able to do a pull-up. I have an English Bulldog named Gus, who is the most stubborn dog in the world. He also slobbers a lot. I miss having a nice couch. I don't watch much TV, but I love the shows Downton Abbey and Game of Thrones. I recently read the Hunger Games series and LOVED it, but did not enjoy the movie. I am lucky to have traveled all over the world, to Spain, Germany, France, Italy, Russia, and Alaska. One of my favorite places to have traveled though is to a friend's lake house in Alabama, where we spent a week of the summer being best friends (and eating, and swimming, and boating, playing the German card-game "RAGE", and water skiing).

I grew up in the Florida Keys and Jacksonville, Florida where I attended boarding school from 7th grade through 12th grade.

Growing up in the Keys was nice, but nobody every stays forever. My three best friends and I grew up together in the keys, and by coincidence, after years of being apart, 3 out of 4 of us ended up back together in DC. Our 4th friend lives up in New York city now.

Boarding school was great.

I graduated high school from The Bolles School, and from there moved to Atlanta to earn a dual degree in Industrial Engineering & Psychology between Agnes Scott College and Georgia Institute of Technology. I didn't originally decide to go to both Agnes Scott (ASC) and GT, but just chose ASC because of its beautiful campus and friendly students. It was very grand, but with less than 1,000 students, very homey. ASC is an all women's college, but you really only noticed that outside of class. During class it was great because you could wear your pj's everywhere (and we did). I entered ASC as the Scotty Class of 2008. Each class gets a class color and votes on their mascot. Our class color was blue, and by the decision of the entire class of 2008, they voted our mascot "Luna, goddess of the moon." My vote was towards something like cops! Each year, during homecoming, there are huge class celebrations as part of an event called "black cat" and each class dresses as their mascot.

If things look a little wild, they were! We we a group of girls having fun, with no one to impress and an entire 4 years of college ahead of us. While I was at ASC, I studied abroad in Spain, where I lived with a local family and took classes (all in Spanish) at La Universidad de Oviedo.

2 years into my Psychology degree, I decided I wasn't getting anywhere with it, and decided to join a dual degree program and also earn an Engineering degree from GT. Because of all of the classes I needed to take, I didn't end up graduating from college until 2009. I didn't walk in the ASC 2008 graduation, because I didn't feel like I was really graduating, with another year of college left ahead of me. I watched all of my fellow Scotties graduate though!

During my time at Georgia Tech, I babysat most days and also became involved in a national community service sorority, Omega Phi Alpha. I ended up becoming the Service Director for the sorority, and developed and led our members through service projects. My time volunteering taught me a lot about work ethic, what it means to give back to the community, and I developed lasting relationships.

I also got my dog, Gus, while at Georgia Tech. Gus is a bulldog. Some would find it strange that a GT yellow jacket would own a bulldog, being a rival of UGA and all. But Gus is a true born yellow jacket.

I moved to DC in 2009 after graduating from Tech. I have always lived in the SW Waterfront region of DC, and I think it is the best neighborhood in the city! My favorite part of SW DC is that we are much more like a neighborhood than much of the rest of the city. SW is just a bunch of residents- no crazy traffic to get to corporate office buildings or stores or bars or restaurants- just us. But we are within walking distance (or running distance) of just about every important monument in DC. I love running around DC. Our most frequented path is down by the Wharf, around the Jefferson Memorial and Tidal Basin, up to the Lincoln Memorial, down the mall past the Washington Monument, past all of the museums, and to the Capitol. It is really the best place for running. Our other favorite place to run is to Eastern Market, the other area of the city we frequent.

I met Shawn, now my boyfriend, at work in 2009. We were both cost estimators and worked for the same group. We secretly dated for years before he recently moved to the contracts department for the Navy. Now, we date not so secretly.

My sister, boyfriend, and our two dogs all live together in what would be considered quite a "cozy" living situation in our too-small apartment.

The dogs pretty much control our lives. We are here for them, not the other way around. Meet Ms. Daisy and Mr. Gus.

You would think that everyone in my apartment is always in bed.

We love to go hiking, and make several trips in the spring, summer, and fall to the Shenandoah Valley. We have hiked Signal Knob, Overall Run/Beecher Run, Old Rag, Great Falls/Difficult Run, and many other hikes along with our camping trips.
