The following is an e-mail exchange between me, my mom, and my sister in response to a previous post about hiking (bears were mentioned in this post, though I never have encountered a bear).

Tell Shawn that you need to always have something to call for help if something goes wrong. This is just good common sense.

BEARS (OMG!!!!!).

Please, please don’t do that again without letting someone know where you are, when you are expected back, carry a cell phone, carry a watch, carry a GPS, carry a whistle, carry a dam gun!!!!!!
