Outa Bananas, Outa Time!
At least that's what they say at the San Diego Zoo! Shawn and I visited the San Diego Zoo while I was out in California to visit him on rotation. He surprised me with VIP Backstage Passes to the zoo, which gets you a tour and encounters with a bunch of animals.
8- That's the number of animals I got to meet and pet. A pacaram, an emu, a hedgehog, a zebra, a donkey, a rhino, a cheetah and a wolf!
This little guy is the last pacarama that the zoo owns. Its mating partner passed away. Which is sad because I am completely convinced that he is THE cutest thing at the zoo! Once he is outa bananas, he starts squirming and wont stay still for pictures. He can walk upright on his two hind legs or on all fours (but very slowly)!
Thankfully, he didn't run out of bananas before we had a chance to take a picture with him.

This white wolf could howl, and would start howling if you howled!
This is a famous emu and had appeared on TV several times. She tours the country for TV appearances.
Petting a zebra is a lot like petting a horse! :) But cuter.
What a cutie pie!!!!!!
We got to see (but not pet) a cheetah!
The zoo did a good job teaching her that children are not "meals on wheels!" The golden retriever is her dog friend. The dog is her best friend, and he keeps the cheetah calm in crowds and in public. Because the dog is calm, the cheetah takes signal from its dog friend that its also ok to be calm.

And the best park of the Backstage Pass, was petting and feeding the Rhino!!!!!!!
The rhoni reminds me of Gus, or Gus reminds me of the rhino. They act and look the same, and run the same! Which came first... the English Bulldog or the Rhino?!

That's one hungry rhino!!!!
Besides the zoo, we visited La Joya beach, where Shawn surprised me with a stay in a very fancy-smancy hotel on the beach. A large corner room with a wrap around balcony, on the first floor, that lined the beach! We swam in the pool and had drinks, and had a great dinner (and breakfast) in the fancy restaurant while watching the beach.
A trip to Torrey Pines was the next day. Torrey Pines is named after a type of pine tree that only exists there. It is a small mountain to hike up. We drove to the top and hiked trails all around it and down to the beach.

Besides all of our very exciting activities, we walked around the beach at Shawn's beach house and relaxed. For Shawn's birthday we baked a chocolate Reese's peanut butter cake. It ended up beeing tooooo rich but it was still fun to make.

All in all, I LOVED San Diego, but I loved seeing Shawn more. Shawn does not like San Diego so much. He misses the green grass and trees. I think it was nice to be on the beach, as that is what I grew up with. The other thing I loved about my trip was hearing the ocean in the mornings and evenings through Shawn's window (from the Master bedroom that faced the beach).
