Thanksgiving Break
(I guess its not so much a break anymore. Breaks are in college. Vacation is for me now that I'm in the real world)
5:00 am - I Drag myself out of bed. I am excited when I remember I don't have to venture out into the cold half dressed to walk the dog. I had dropped him off at The BackYard Pack boarding the night before. Eat. Dress. Jump on the metro to the airport.
7:00 am- Depart in plan
7:10 am- Bumpy plane ride
7:40 am- The plane is all over the place.
8:00 am- Up. Down. Left. Right. Sideways. Upside down??
8:15 am- I am pretty sure the guy sitting next to me is laughing on the inside because I look so nervous, I'm holding onto my seat cushion for dear life (he offers me the arm rests to hold onto but I for some reason feel safer attached to my seat cushion), and every time the plane drops my hands go up in the air. I'm also huffing and puffing due to frustration.
8:30 am- The plane is more like a roller coaster
8:40 am- Pilot: "The ride will get smoother as we start our descent"
9:00 am- We start our descent. The flight gets worse.
8:40 am- Pilot: "The ride will get smoother as we start our descent"
9:00 am- We start our descent. The flight gets worse.
9:30 am- Landing. The whole plane erupts into applause. I made it alive.
10:00 am- Rain. Thunder. Cold. This is not the Florida I expected. Yay! Happy to see Mom. Unhappy that thunder clouds follow me every where I go.
2:30 pm- Lindsay and I depart for Stuart to visit Dad. We realize that we are on the wrong interstate too late and are lost.
2:45 pm- Crisis averted, we found the Turnpike- We think.
4:00 pm- Yay! I get to see my Dad and Karen for dinner (and my sister comes. It is the first time in forever we were all together at the same time). I tried to resist my sisters fried corn balls (BBQ dinner) but cant- they are so good. Lots of driving.
8:30 pm- Verbally attacked by family about marriage- why I'm not married, if I'm getting married, when I'm getting married. Also several attempts by Grandmother to hook me up with someone who also works at the Navy Yard. Harassed to bring lots of food to the hotel room with me. Scared. Frustrated. Planning escape route. Leave with 2 lbs. of baked ziti.
10:15 pm- Yay! Francesco arrives.
Rest of the Holiday:
During Thanksgiving break, I was kicked out (not really so much) of my house and put up in a hotel because we had so much family in town. The hotel my mom had was amazing. We were in one of the Seminole Hard Rock Casino Hotel (no I didn't even spend a penny on gambling). It was the coolest hotel room I have ever soon, and I have decided that I want to replicate the design of the room when I have my own house! The hotel room had a foyer when you walked in, a half bath, a living room, a bedroom, and a large bathroom with a jacuzzi tub! I took a bath every night in the hotel (also you had to because you were covered in the smell of smoke by time you made it through the lobby to the hotel room). The even better part of the hotel was the pool (which we didn't get to use because it was too cold)! I took the below pictures just so I can remember what it looked like so I can replicate it.We visited Key West on Saturday.
Among the interesting things we see:
1. Drunk local lying face down on the side walk kicking his legs in the air
2. Parrot man
3. Butterfly Atrium
4. Roosters who begged for part of our lunch
5. Yellow tail snappers in the reef from the glass bottom boat 6 miles off the island.
6. In the evening, a man riding around on a bike done up with hundreds of christmas lights, signs, and a boom box blasting music.
