Leadership in America- Katie Couric

Katie Couric: CBS News Anchor

Today Katie Couric came to NAVSEA to talk at our distinguished speaker series. Her planned topic was to be "Media's Role in Government." It ended up that when she got there, she just decided to kind of "chat." So she talked about her career, and the difficulties she overcame. She talked about some of her favorite interviews and the news that she had covered that affected/toucher her the most (this was her coverage of 9/11 when she felt she had to be strong, and her coverage of the Columbine shooting). She also talked about her platform on Colon Cancer (I did not know she got a colonoscopy on TV)! She is actually quite funny and seems to be a very sweet person. Among the questions asked were:
1. Since she mentioned the average age of her viewers is 65, how she felt media would adapt to more and more younger adults using the internet to get news
2. Many healthcare reform questions
3. Why she thought the news was so negative
4. And among some of the stupid questions, was if she saw the movie "Anchor Man" and if she liked it

Unfortunately she had a meeting to rush to after her appearance, so she was unable to give autographs or pictures. It was fun getting to hear her speak though.
