Labor Day fun...
For Labor Day I visited Francesco in Atlanta. It seems that Atlanta was the place to be for labor day. Among the activities going on were:
1. Dragon*Con
2. Atlanta Falcons
3. Georgia Tech football game
4. Chick-fil-A football kickoff
- Virginia Tech vs. Alabama football game
- A concert in Centennial Olympic Park with Collective Soul
We were taking a nap when we hear a bunch of noise coming from the park. We looked out the window and saw the park packed full of people, but I didn't think it was anything too good, as most events at Centennial Park are mediocre. But then I started to recognize songs. We saw Collective Soul play for nearly an hour, for free!
During the weekend we also went out in Decatur, visited the zoo, went to the rooftop pool a couple of times, attended the "countries largest" book festival held in Decatur, grilled out, walked around Piedmont Park, and went for a walk down town.
One of the most interesting parts of the weekend was driving around downtown. Thousands of people came to Atlanta to attend the Dragon*Con convention, the countries largest sci-fi convention. It's basically a ton of nerds congregating, dressed up in elaborate costumes of characters I am not familiar with (and many mostly naked), drunk, and doing God knows what in hotel rooms ;). Crazyness. Apparently there is a parade, and I am sad to have missed that.
Just to give you an idea, here is a picture of Star Wars guys, and they just run around the streets of Atlanta.... there are whole legions of them!
The hotel that they held it in is really awesome, and I brought Francesco there to see it on Monday.

My biggest regret is that we didn't go to the convention. While it is expensive, it would have been worth it to go just to see all of the costumes (and get a good laugh)! Some of these costumes are elaborate enough that they look like they just walked out of a movie. We walked downtown on Monday, when most people were leaving, so we did not get to see as many people dressed up. I saw some people carrying around dragons on a stick! Apparently there were also light-saber fights in the street and R2D2 robots that people made. I wish we would have had a camera to take some pictures. Next year I hope that we take the opportunity to check it out, even though I have no interest in sci-fi and would have to ask everyone what/who exactly they are dressed up as. Its pretty awesome and people are very talented at costume making.
While I was in Atlanta, Gusteau was hanging with his buddies at The Backyard Pack. Among the Labor Day activities was an ice cream party. Gusteau won the award for messiest eater, but really there is no other way for him to eat it out of a cup- his face is too flat!

Overall it was a great weekend, but I was happy to come home to a comfortable bed and Gusteau. Very unhappy and sad to leave Francesco though.
